2.3 ADIA
Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) is a global investment institution whose mission is to preserve and sustain the current and future prosperity of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi by prudently investing UAE state assets to create long-term value. ADIA is headquartered in Abu Dhabi and has employees from over 40 countries worldwide. ADIA was established by the Ministry of Finance and is funded primarily by Abu Dhabi's oil revenues. The President of the UAE, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is the Chairman of ADIA's Board of Directors. ADIA manages a portfolio of investments across industries and geographies and across multiple asset classes, including publicly traded equities, fixed income instruments, real estate and private equity.
ADIA HAS CLEAR GUIDELINES, PROCEDURES AND SYSTEMS IN PLACE TO ENSURE ITS EFFECTIVE OPERATION. ADIA’S COMPLETE MANAGEMENT PROCESS INCLUDES INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT, FINANCIAL CONTROL, INFORMATION SYSTEMS, AND HUMAN RESOURCES.
(i) Investment management
The entire investment management process includes:Determine investment objectives - Asset allocation - Establish investment directives in one asset or sub-asset - Determine investment benchmark (S&P 500, MSCI) --Establishing an investment approach--Implementation.
(ii) Financial control
Execution management of investment policies includes pre-audit, post-audit, financial control, execution and risk reporting, and compliance review.
(iii) Information System
ADIA’S INFORMATION SYSTEMS PROVIDE ACCURATE DATA TO ENSURE THAT INVESTMENTS COMPLY WITH INTERNAL GUIDELINES AND EXTERNAL RULES, ENABLING INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT AND FINANCIAL CONTROL PROCESSES TO OPERATE EFFECTIVELY.
(iv) Human Resources
ADIA’S HUMAN RESOURCES STRATEGY SUPPORTS THE MANAGEMENT OF THE ORGANIZATION THROUGH RECRUITMENT, PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT, PAYROLL, TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT MECHANISMS.
